Spinal stenosis is an irregular narrowing (stenosis) of the spinal canal that may occur in any region of the spine.  This narrowing causes a constraint in the spinal canal, which results in a neurological deficit.  (A functional abnormality of a body due to a decrease in the function of the brain, spinal cord, muscles, or nerves.)  Symptoms include numbness, inability to speak, visual changes, loss of balance, mental function problems, walking issues, and abnormal reflexes.

If you are experiencing any of these debilitating conditions it may be time to see a specialist.  There are many non-surgical treatments for spinal stenosis including exercise, activity modification, and epidural injections.  Blue Ridge Orthopaedic & Spine Center offers Physical Therapy Rehabilitation, and Pain Management as options  for non surgical treatments.  If surgery does become necessary however, our board certified spine specialists are here to help you achieve your goals of getting back to healthy living.   For more information please call (540) 347-9220.
