Orthopaedic Care

Orthopaedics is the branch of medicine concerned with the bones, joints, muscles, and associated structures. Your musculoskeletal system is comprised of 206 bones that are connected by joints, muscles, ligaments, tendons and nerves. Your musculoskeletal system protects your internal organs, supports your weight, and allows you to move. It is a complex interdependent system where even a minor disruption can result in discomfort and physical limitations. Blue Ridge physicians are trained to diagnose and treat various injuries, deformities, or diseases that interrupt this system. They have a breath of knowledge to cover all or most of the variety of aches and pains, injuries and developmental abnormalities that patients experience. Using the most advanced techniques and technologies, our group of surgeons treats a full range of orthopaedic problems.

Foot and Ankle

The Foot and Ankle Division brings together a team to treat foot and ankle conditions caused from work and sports related injuries, fractures, deformities, congenital defects and disease processes. Dr. Ramser, a member of the American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle society, is highly trained and experienced surgeon who treats local patients and referrals from other foot and ankle surgeons in the area.

Hip and Knee

The knee and hip are the largest joints in the body and the most common reason patients visit an orthopedist. These joints contain cartilage, a rubbery material that cushions the ends of bones and facilitates movement. Over time, or if the joint has been injured, the cartilage wears away and the bones of the joint start rubbing together. As bones rub together, bone spurs may form and the joint becomes stiff and painful. The most common cause of chronic knee and hip pain is arthritis. Osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and traumatic arthritis are the most common forms. Our physicians are board certified experts who can diagnosis your condition and plan the most appropriate care to get you back on your feet enjoying an active, pain free, lifestyle.

Hand and Wrist

Hand and wrist surgery treats conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, degenerative arthritis or post-traumatic arthritis. These conditions often can be relieved by advanced reconstructive surgeries, including hand and wrist fusions or hand joint replacement procedures for the wrist, thumb and fingers.

Specialized treatments and surgical procedures include:

Shoulder

Shoulder pain is one of the most common orthopaedic conditions, and can nearly always be successfully treated. Injuries or wear-and-tear frequently affect the shoulder, which has the most range of motion of any joint in the body. Our surgeons have specialty training and experience to treat shoulder problems, both surgically and non-surgically.
