Blue Ridge Orthopaedics and Spine Center offers comprehensive Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation services Monday thru Friday 7:00 am to 8:00 pm. Our team of Physical Therapists and our Occupational Hand Therapist work exclusively in the treatment of orthopaedic conditions. Using evidence based treatments we focus on procedures designed to bring you back to full functioning. Our facility was created to meet your orthopaedic needs and we have several specialty treatment areas tailored to your individual needs. These include our Spine Care Center, our Occupational and Hand Therapy room, a 900 sq ft. Physical Therapy gym, Aquatics, and an in-house Orthotic Lab and Orthopaedic Bracing center. All therapy protocols are designed under the close consultation and supervision of our physicians.
Spine: Rehabilitation of spinal conditions is treated in our state-of-the-art Spine Care Center. Therapy focuses on improving strength and flexibility of the spine, body mechanics, ergonomics, weight management, and aerobic conditioning. We utilize the MedX Exercise System to isolate and strengthen the core muscles surrounding the spine. Medical research has shown the MedX program obtains the best patient outcomes based on objective measures and comparisons to norms, not solely on subjective pain ratings. Other treatment modalities include: Manual Therapy Techniques, Orthotics, Traction, and Orthopaedic Bracing.
Occupational & Hand Therapy: This program is designed for the patient who has an orthopaedic condition of the hand or upper extremity, problems with fine motor skills, or need improvement in activities of daily living. Ellen Meekins, our Occupational Therapist, is a Certified Hand Therapist with extensive training in multiple orthopaedic conditions of the hand and upper extremity, and in static and dynamic splinting.
Physical Therapy: Sports Medicine, Joint Replacements, Gait, Balance, and Orthopaedic conditions of the shoulder, knee, hip, and ankle are treated in our Physical Therapy gym area.
Aquatics: Aquatic Physical Therapy uses the physical properties of water to assist in healing and exercise performance. Water buoyancy decrease the amount of weight borne by the joints and can be useful for patients with osteoarthritis, healing fractured bone, or obesity. Our Aquatic Therapy is provided by our staff though a cooperative arrangement with the Warrenton Aquatic and Recreation Facility.
Orthotics: We offer over the counter or custom made orthotics. We evaluate your gait to customize the best orthotic appliance for your condition in our in-house orthotic lab. Jennifer Wilkins, a member of our staff with over 17 years of experience treating foot and ankle conditions, has completed both Phase I and II of, "When the foot hits the ground" continuing education courses.
Orthopaedic Bracing: If you are recovering from surgery, preventing a sports injury, or just need a little support, let our therapists who specialize in orthopaedic bracing help. Getting the right brace and the right fit are important factors in preventing further injury. We specialize in bracing of the Spine, Knee, Ankle, Elbow, Wrist, and Hand. Our Spine Brace System allows core muscles to continue working while the spine is protected. With this extra support, painful symptoms decrease. With less pain, you are able to do more and feel better. We also provide Knee Braces designed for orthopaedic conditions such as ligament insufficiency; patella maltracking; or to unload an arthritic joint.
