Hand and wrist surgery treats conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, degenerative arthritis or post-traumatic arthritis. These conditions often can be relieved by advanced reconstructive surgeries, including hand and wrist fusions or hand joint replacement procedures for the wrist, thumb and fingers.

Specialized treatments and surgical procedures include:

The Physical Therapy & Rehab Department of Blue Ridge Orthopaedic & Spine Center is home to the regions only Occupational/Certified Hand Therapists: Ellen Meekins, MHS, OTR/L, CHT and Rita McVicar, OTR/L, CHT. Meekins and McVicar design programs for patients who have orthopaedic conditions of the hand or upper extremity, problems with fine motor skills, or the need for improvement in daily living activities.
